As climate challenges and social inequalities intensify, cities must embrace economic models that respect planetary boundaries while ensuring social well-being. This project empowers local governments, green entrepreneurs and communities with the knowledge and tools to implement post-growth strategies. By focusing on practices, we aim to create more ecologically sustainable and socially just societies.
At its core the project is an adult education program that demystifies postgrowth concepts and translates them into actionable strategies, tools, and practices. It puts emphasis on marginalised neighbourhoods, community-led transitions and on democratic city-planning. We will develop an open-source online course available in five languages. In addition, we will offer tailored modules in-person in five European cities: Amsterdam, Brussels, Madrid, Zagreb, and Prague. The tailored modules will equip communities and local governments to design and implement postgrowth initiatives suited to their regional contexts as well as fortify the local networks underpinning post-growth transitions. Next to that, we will develop two key publications: The Post-growth Cities Educational Handbook and The Post-growth Cities Primer.
