The German Sovereign Tech Fund ”supports the development, improvement and maintenance of open digital infrastructure. The goal is to sustainably strengthen the open source ecosystem. It focuses on security, resilience, technological diversity, and the people behind the code.”

The fund is still in the startup phase and will have two important characteristics that differentiate it from other similar structures. The fund explicitly includes in its scope the maintenance of existing digital infrastructures and the fund will be able to actively identify projects in need of support (instead of relying on applications).
