Sophie is a political economist, and co-founder and director of Commons Network. She works at the intersection of economic transition, postgrowth, digital commons and the role of governments. As social advocate in policy and organiser, she has worked extensively on democratization of the economy and public-civic partnerships, developing ideas, proposals and projects for postgrowth economies. Her work and projects span from the local to the global level, having worked with international institutions, European policy makers, as well as ministries and municipalities. Throughout her career she co-initiated and coordinated several successful alliances of civil society organizations including a platform for the community economy in Amsterdam (MeentCoop), a European coalition for a Digital Public Space, as well as a coalition on Access to medicines, trade and R&D in Europe and Latin America. She lives in Amsterdam and previously worked from the US, Brussels and Berlin. She regularly speaks and publishes on her ideas, including the book Our Commons: Political Ideas for a New Europe.
